Call for PTAB nominations
If your organization would like to help influence how recreation and trail planning is carried out in BC, consider nominating a member of your organization to join the Provincial Trails Advisory Body (PTAB).
The deadline for submitting a nomination is Monday, April 4.
The PTAB got underway in 2015 and its main aim is to advise the BC Government on implementation strategies consistent with the intent of the Provincial Trails Strategy and to undertake a periodic review of the strategy. Secondary aims are to provide a collaborative forum for trails organizations and other interests. Learn more about the PTAB here.
The PTAB has a membership of 15 (recently increased from 13), including six representatives that are appointed by ORCBC to represent the broader outdoor recreation interests. ORCBC is the co-chair (executive director) along with Recreation Sites and Trails BC. These are the current ORCBC representatives:
Dave Wharton (Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC) - term expiring
Kim Reeves (4WDABC) - term expiring
Eric Vanderkruk (International Mountain Biking Association of Canada)
Liz Saunders (Horse Council BC)
Neil Shuttleworth (Trails Society of BC)
Wayne Mercer (Quad Riders ATV Association of BC)
Other members include Tennessee Trent (co-chair) and Daniel Scott (Recreation Sites and Trails), Adrian Wynnyk (BC Parks), Jesse Skulmoski/Johanna Bleecker (Ministry of Transportation), Brian Farquhar (BC Parks and Recreation Association), Ministry of Tourism (new rep, not named yet), Scott Benton (Wilderness Tourism Association of BC), David Oliver (BC Wildlife Federation) and Louise Pedersen (ORCBC, co-chair).
Out of ORCBC’s six seats, two of these are up for election this spring. We want to seek a good balance between outdoor recreation interests (non-motorized, motorized, equestrian and mountain biking, summer and winter). As well as being a member in good standing of a provincial group member of ORCBC, each applicant for nomination is requested to meet the following criteria:
Have the time and willingness to commit to meetings and other PTAB activities (see terms of reference for information about meetings and reimbursement)
Have a high interest and knowledge of trails in BC;
Be interested in more than one trails-related activity and demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of the views of multiple user groups;
Have a history of collaborating with groups having a variety of interests and working for the greater good of the trails community;
Have an interest in public policy issues.
If you would like to be considered, please send your application by April 4 to louisepedersen@orcbc.ca with the following information:
Your name, contact details and affiliation;
The skills/experience that makes you a strong candidate for the position;
Your capacity to commit to a volunteer role and why you are interested in joining the PTAB;
Full names of two current members of the organization that you are affiliated with who support your nomination.
All nominations will be reviewed by ORCBC’s Board of Directors who will elect the two individuals in April.
