Calling all river lovers!
Sunday, September 25th marks World Rivers Day and 42nd BC Rivers Day.
We hope that you, like us, are busy scheming ways to join in on one of the biggest environmental and community celebrations across BC and the globe.
As the province where Rivers Day started, we take pride in putting our best foot forward. Each year at ORCBC, we are thrilled to see the many inventive ways people find to celebrate and protect our waterways. This year is no exception: protecting our freshwater is more important than ever.
On that note, let's keep the ball rolling, the celebrations going, and the rivers running.
There are more than 100 countries celebrating Rivers Day, which is something to celebrate in itself. Submit your event here and we'll help you promote it.
We'll be updating our website calendar as events are added and will post upcoming events to our social media channels over the next month.
GET INSPIRED
Rivers Day celebrations are diverse by nature. Whether you are an individual or an organization, your event or activity can be big, small, private or public. Last year there were more than 41 events held around the province.
Here are some events from 2021 for inspiration:
28th Annual Ridge Meadows Rivers Day: Fun activities for all ages and great exhibitors, including Maple Ridge WlidSafe BC and the Adopt a Block Programs.
Kokanee Fish Fest: Wildsight Revelstoke, shoals of community organizations and Revelstokians celebrated their local salmon in style with informative and engaging booths hosted by a number of organizations.
BC Rivers Day paddle along the Columbia Rivers: A great flotilla of paddlers started at Golden's Nicholson Bridge and made their way to Confluence Park, accompanied by certified instructors and Wildsight Golden Naturalists.
RiverFest Festival: Fraser River Discovery Center normally hosts a four-day event, but the 2021 edition lasted a full week.
Paddle expeditions, speaker series, film screenings, community celebrations, clean-up days, film screenings and educational seminars are all excellent choices for those looking to host an event.
