Annual budget consultation announced

The Province has announced the 2023 budget consultation and the deadline for signing up to make a presentation is May 6, 2022.

The annual budget consultation is conducted by the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services and it's an opportunity for the recreation sector to highlight the many benefits of outdoor recreation to British Columbians and to show broad support for the allocation of additional resources for recreation in the next provincial budget.

In the past, ORCBC and several of our members, including Horse Council BC, BC Snowmobile Federation, Mountain Biking Tourism Association, International Mountain Biking Association of Canada, Shuswap Trail Alliance, CPAWS-BC, Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC, ATVBC, Trails BC and others have made either oral or written presentations.

ORCBC encourages as many of our members as possible to sign up to present or to submit written input (written comments are received through the budget consultation platform from May 30).

We have been successful in getting some of our broad concerns reflected in the consultation report over the past couple of years which helps inform the budgeting process (here's the 2022 budget consultation report - see page 43 for the Select Standing Committee's recommendation re outdoor recreation to the Legislative Assembly).

Here's the direct link to sign up to present.

If you wish to submit written input, stay tuned and we'll be in touch when the committee is ready to receive written, audio and video submissions.

ORCBC is forming a working group for our members to discuss this further. If you're interested in being part of this group, send us a note.
