The Outdoor Recreation Council of BC's (ORCBC) 2023 Annual General Meeting was held via Zoom on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

Here’s a summary from ORCBC Board Chair Wayne Mercer.

Another well-attended AGM is now in our rearview mirror, and we are looking forward to the next twelve months with considerable enthusiasm.

I would like to welcome our new board members - Amanda L'Heureux, Byron Spinks, and Ken Matthews – buckle up, folks; it is going to be a thrilling ride.

Thanks also to those who allowed their name to stand for election but were not successful this time. It is gratifying to see so much interest in the organization that candidates must be elected rather than acclaimed.

The ORC will continue to be guided by its Strategic Plan and will simultaneously manage the additional (and enviable) task of setting up the Outdoor Recreation Fund. This deceptively simple statement is your assurance that the ORC has a clear direction and is committed to fulfilling its priorities.

I can not stress too much or too frequently how important it is that each and every ORC member makes their opinions known as to how the Fund should be set up to provide the greatest overall benefit for Public Outdoor Recreation. We have an incredible opportunity to be creative. While we know that the Fund will evolve over the coming years, let’s put as much effort as possible into getting it right even in the first year.

I’d like to thank departing board members Barry Huber, our very dedicated Treasurer; David Oliver, inimitable Chair of the Policy Committee; and Mike Riediger for their valuable contributions to the operation of this organization. We will build on your legacy.

Have a wonderful summer in the outdoors,

Wayne
