2022 AGM: ORCBC appoints new Board of Directors and Chair
The Outdoor Recreation Council's (ORCBC) 2022 Annual General Meeting was held virtually on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
ORCBC’s 2022 Annual General Meeting was very well attended with twelve Provincial Organization Members and thirteen Regional Organization Members present.
ORCBC welcomes back returning incumbent Directors Rod Clapton, Barry Huber, David Oliver, Dave Wharton, Ken McClelland, Mike Riediger and Eric Vanderkruk and newly appointed Chair Wayne Mercer. Directors new to the board this year are Phil Rankin and Kim Reeves.
“As the newest Chair of the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC, I’d like to welcome back to the Board the Directors who have been re-elected at our recent AGM. Their experience on previous ORCBC boards, and particular areas of recreation-related expertise, will serve us well”, said Wayne Mercer, ORCBC Board Chair.
“I’d also like to thank Past Chair Ciel Sander for six years of service to ORCBC, including the last year as Board Chair”, he added.
Wayne Mercer noted: “ORCBC has no shortage of challenges to address. Advocating for improved funding for existing public recreation; expansion of public recreation resources to keep up to our growing population; protection of recreation values; and achieving the incorporation of recreation as an objective under the Forest and Range Practices Act are among the many topics that are always close at hand.”
He added, “ORCBC has a five-goal Strategic Plan which keeps the Board focused on priorities. I encourage you to view it on our excellent, recently updated, website”.
The Strategic Plan is based on five core values and principles: Indigenous reconciliation, accountability, respect and diversity, environmental sustainability, collaboration and resiliency. Read the 2021-2025 Strategic Report here.
“I’m also very pleased to report that our implementation of monthly members’ roundtables has been very well received. They have greatly improved two-way communication, with the added benefit that many of our members are encountering other recreation organizations on the calls who share similar concerns and have great ideas for dealing with particular issues”, said Wayne Mercer.
The next members’ roundtable will be held virtually on June 2, 2022 at 1 pm. All ORCBC members receive notice of upcoming roundtable meetings by email. If you are not receiving notices, please contact the ORCBC office at info@orcbc.ca.
