Recent Highlights

  • 2015 - Co-sponsor, with the Horse Council of BC, the Share the Trails workshop in Richmond BC
  • 2015 – Inaugural meeting of the Provincial Trails Advisory Body 2015 - As co-sponsor of the Provincial Trails Advisory Body, ORC appointed five of the PTAB’s 13 members to represent public recreation.
  • 2014 – Administration of the National Trails Coalition’s trail funding program for BC’s non-motorized outdoor recreation groups
  • 2014- Co-sponsor, with the Horse Council of BC, the Share the Trails workshop in Richmond BC
  • 2013- Co-sponsor with Horse Council of BC of “Sharing the Trail Workshop” in Kamloops and hosted the 2013 Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Trails Federation .
  • 2013- Trail Development Workshop in Burnaby
  • ORC participated in the development of the Trails Strategy for BC which was published in June 2013
  • ORC is a member of the Joint Advisory Group for the development of the Off Road Vehicle (ORV) Management Framework, which will require one time registration of ORVs.
  • ORC distributes to its member organizations Referrals regarding Crown Land tenure applications to Front Counter BC by adventure tourism operators .
  • ORC distributes invitations for the public to comment on Environmental Impact Statements filed with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and equivalent applications to the BC Environmental Assessment Office.
  • 2012 - Workshop: “Risk management for outdoor groups”
  • 2010 - Formation of the Chilliwack River Valley Trail Association which has now expanded its area of interest to become the Chilliwack Recreation Advisory Group (CRAG)
  • 2010 - Workshop: “Working together: finding solutions to regional and community trail issues"
  • 2009 – BC member of the Canadian Trails Federation
  • 2009 – Administration of the federal trail funding program for BC’s non-motorized outdoor recreation groups
  • BC’s Occupiers Liability Act: Public Recreation Access protected on forestry roads, areas of commercial recreation tenure
  • Sponsorship and promotion of BC Rivers Day on the last Sunday of September every year since 1980
